I have a 25+ year experience in a wide range of functions working in start-up and multinational agribusiness and nutrition companies. (The vast majority of my career for the last 19 years has been with start-up and emerging companies.) Functions have ranged from business development, strategy, financial analysis, product development, marketing and project and general management. My main areas of industry experience include crop protection / improvement / fertility (Bayer CropScience, AgraQuest and BioConsortia) as well as animal health / nutrition (Purina Mills/Koch Industries, Cargill, Ventria BioScience -- recombinant proteins produced in transgenic plants and AgraQuest) but I've also worked in human nutrition and food protection. I've participated in discoveries to development all the way through global registrations and launch of microbial solutions for plants and animals. In addition, I've originated, negotiated and closed agreements to in-license products (from both universities and companies), out-license solutions, source distributors and discovery and development collaborations. Though it would be a stretch to classify me an expert in intellectual property (IP), it is fair to say I have a strong understanding of the importance of establishing freedom to operate and developing a patent estate that is attractive to potential partners and investors. I grew up on an Iowa row crop and livestock farm where I inherited a strong work ethic and values. I passed the CPA exam (Bachelors of Arts in accounting and finance) and have an MBA from the University of Chicago (marketing and finance). In closing, I'm an incredibly passionate person that loves translating early stage discoveries into compelling commercial solutions!
