John is a Principal Advisor at Larta Institute. He brings more than 20 years of experience in the commercialization of innovative chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and engineered products in the healthcare, energy, and industrial market sectors. His business expertise includes strategy, business development, communications, and entrepreneurial management.
John is the founder and President of Symbios Advisors, a consulting company that supports the development and commercial advancement of disruptive technologies. John is also the Senior Vice President of Corporate Development at Kiverdi, an industrial biotechnology company which is converting carbon dioxide into value added products.
John spent nine years as Vice President, Business Development at Materia, an advanced material and catalyst technology company based upon Nobel Prize winning chemistry out of Caltech. In this role, he drove the company’s overall commercialization efforts - assessing and prioritizing market opportunities, creating development and business plans, and executing over 15 strategic partnerships with Fortune 500 and mid cap industry leaders. Besides Materia, John served as the primary business officer in several startups including WellNow Centers (retail medicine), GeneFluidics (molecular diagnostics), and Epeius Biotechnologies (gene therapy).
John holds an undergraduate degree from Stanford University in Urban Design and an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management with emphases on entrepreneurship and finance.
