John is a seasoned patent and corporate attorney and strategic business consultant who specializes in accelerating the commercialization of high tech companies' technologies, developing their intellectual property strategies while leading and guiding them through the complex process of obtaining institutional strategic and financial investment, acquisition, merger, and IPO.
As a registered practicing patent and corporate attorney and Principal Advisor for Larta Institute, John has mentored nearly 200 companies with their IP strategies, negotiated and successfully closed several hundred domestic and international partnership and license deals, M&A transactions, and joint ventures and is intimately involved in developing the right business plan and analysis that monetizes and strategically values the company's technology rights. He continues to work with Fortune 500 corporations, emerging tech companies, and start-ups, involving a wide range of technologies and industries including clean tech, life science, biotech, medical devices, IT, software and cloud computing, e-commerce, and education.
John specializes in the legal representation and commercial acceleration of high-tech businesses. He has served as General Counsel to a publicly traded foreign
biopharmaceutical company and a well known non-profit association with over 600 university members. John has also provided business development and strategic consultant assistance to well over 100 companies and he regularly counsels companies on general business law, including how best to finance and commercialize intellectual assets while mitigating litigation risk.
John received an MS with honors from John Hopkins University in Biotechnology, an MBA with honors from USC Marshall School of Business, a JD from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, and his undergraduate degree with honors from Duke University.
