Chairman - The Interlink Group
Shezad Rokerya is currently Chairman of The Interlink Group a 17 year old merchant bank with over $30 billion in transactional experience and a Senior Advisor of Carver Cross Securities, Inc. a NY based $4 billion cross border M&A firm. Mr. Rokerya joined Interlink in 1992 and has grown the group into diversified areas including, infrastructure, financial services & banking, oil & gas, power, telecom, media and IT. He has led Interlink to advise on infrastructure assignments in Hong Kong, China, Bangladesh, Ecuador, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Uzbekistan on transactions valued in excess of $12 billion. He has participated in M&A and equity investment transactions valued in excess of $17 billion with companies from the media, telecom and entertainment industries in North America, Asia and Europe.
He has worked directly with the Chairmen of international conglomerates whose combined revenues exceed $50 billion and advised several Forbes listed families. He has developed specialized expertise in advising foreign governments and their state owned entities and in 1997 was selected by the Indian Federal Power Minister as special envoy to facilitate and negotiate a Pakistan/India power sale of 3,750 MW’s valued at nearly $4 billion. He serves on the Board of Interlink Power Company an investor and developer of power projects in South Asia and of Interlink Energy Holdings where he has led and co-invested in oil and gas production projects in California, Texas, Wyoming, Michigan, and Oklahoma and internationally in Indonesia and Colombia. Mr.Rokerya is also on the investment committee of Interlink Equity Capital L.P. a South Asian private equity banking buy-out fund formed to make friendly acquisitions of banks undergoing privatization. He is Chairman of Interlink Equity Partners, which has been an advisor to Asia's largest domestic investor with $12 billion in assets. He is a Member of the Advisory Board of Discovery Bank, Los Angeles. He serves on the Board of Platinum Acquisition Group, an emerging markets private equity buyout firm. He is Vice Chairman of DF Holding Ltd. of Dubai, a subsidiary of DF Deutsche Forfait AG/MM Warburg Bank, Germany and Interlink Asia Ltd. He is a Board Member of Crescent Group Inc. and its Asia and Mid East asset management subsidiaries. He is a Board member of ECP Funds, a US based family office fund of funds with investments in global private equity funds since 1992. He is a Board Member of Equity Capital Partners and a Member of the Advisory Board for Quartics and Euromax UK.
Before Interlink, he spent many years involved with ultra high net worth merchant and royal families in the GCC and their private investments offices. His experience has been at Shearson Lehman Brothers and later with Merrill Lynch & Co in the US, London and Geneva where he advised and managed in excess of $500 million in Private client assets. Over the years he has developed trusted relationships with foreign leaders and private investors worldwide. He earlier acted as financier and advisor to the Saudi Royal Family on telecom, hotel and railway infrastructure projects throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and abroad. Mr. Rokerya is a native of Montreal, Canada where he attended McGill University and Western State Law School. He is a graduate of the Global Leadership and Public Policy program at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.
His philanthropic and civic activities include, SOS Villages for orphan children. He is also Chairman of The Interlink Foundation. Mr. Rokerya is committed through the Interlink Foundation to the people’s empowerment in South Asia by developing human capital utilizing education and technology. He is Chairman of the Larta Institute’s Global Advisory Council and is also a member of the KGISL IT Institute Board of Governors in India. He is a Charter Member of the Pacific Council of International Policy, the west coast partner of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is a supporter of the World Affairs Council and Asia Society and in 2005 was elected by the World Economic Forum as a Global Leader, a forum chaired by Queen Rania of Jordan. He is a member of the FICCI/Pacific Council Innovation Task Force for India whose members include former US Ambassador to India Richard Celeste, Sabeer Bhatia, Bill Draper and Azim Premji.
