climate through its star product--computer-assisted reasoning
(CAR)

processes, and assists companies to prepare not just for
select outcomes, but for any shape the unseen future might
take.

Online Tunes: People Are Paying (Wired
News)
Amid copyright infringement lawsuits, bankruptcies, legislative
battles and an overriding belief in some quarters that
they'll never turn a profit, digital music subscription
services are showing signs of good health. Independently
owned MusicMatch, which this week surpassed 100,000 customers
for its streaming radio service, has become a beacon for
Internet music businesses. "The fundamental question
in a post-Napster era is, 'Can you create a business model?'
The answer is yes," said Aram Sinnreich, senior analyst
with Jupiter Media Metrix. "Consumers do recognize
value in premium services."

Deregulation and New Economy Made Destructive
Bedfellows (Downtown News)
By now, we have all become intoxicated with
Enron's death throes. In death, it will inevitably
grab and pull many others down with it--thousands
of employees, to be sure, as well as shareholders,
and unfortunately some legitimate businesses.
Hopefully, it will drag down the politicians,
who, along with some well off accountants,
were the foxes guarding the hen house.

Japan sees nanotech as key to rebuilding
its economy (Small Times)
From the 49th floor of the glass-walled
conference room, the view of the Hollywood
sign is eye level. It is here where Makoto
Yokota sits down to talk nanotech. Yokota
is executive director of technology and research
at the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO)
in downtown Los Angeles. The Japanese government-funded
group promotes trade between Japan and other
countries. In Japan, big companies promote
research and development, but they keep it
all within the organization, Yokota said.
"They don't like to use outer resources,
such as university professors or small venture
company researchers. This is one problem."
