From a technological perspective, three puzzle pieces must fit together for the effective delivery of new media content: network development, device manufacture, and data management. Many of the major players have tried to hurry the execution of such enormous tasks. They can be expedited, yet they cannot be rushed - there just aren't enough of the ingredients (capital, labor, to name but two) to accomplish such grand plans in such short time frames.

As The Economist pointed out in October 2000, all we are certain about is "appalling uncertainty." Technological barriers, as well as regulatory hindrances have slowed progression towards a single standard and broad consumer adoption in the United States. "Three-G ain't about to happen as fast as we thought it was, except in Japan," where it is expected to be deployed in May, said Andrew Seybold, consultant and host of the Summit 4Mobility 2001 at the Wigwam Resort (Arizona) on Tuesday. The big 3G question, according to conference presenters, is whether sufficient demand for 3G technology will exist when it does arrive.
click here for the full article from The Wall Street Journal

5. Winning in the Wireless World - ROAM - April 9-11th
larta is a proud supporter of The Standard's Wireless Conference - Roam.
