Sense and Sensibility: The Rebirth of Old Entrepreneurship

It is now common knowledge that budding entrepreneurs, many of them under or barely over 30, evaded traditional business practices in the dot com, the "bubble" era. The numerous reasons have been well-documented: too young, too anxious to get a piece of the hot deals, too hasty in their business plans and so on. Yet as the shock is wearing off and entrepreneurs look towards a wary marketplace, it is becoming evident that the old way of doing things is now the new way. Traditional strategic planning, once shunned as obsolete and regressive, is regaining its position as the most viable tactic for startups and entrepreneurs with hanging, difficult questions about their uncertain future.

Value Games: Back to Basics
Along with marketing magic, buzzword overkill and all other forms of business hype, company valuation went from a metrics system of tangible assets to another smoke and mirrors creation of the dot com era. As investor wariness replaced investor eagerness, valuation is no longer an elaborately constructed tower of babble, but an assessment of a company's real foundations and profits.
