To market, to market
October 24, 2005

Project T2, Larta Institute's "body contact sport," is on display November 8, 2005

50 plus technology innovations developed at 25 institutions from across the country and from the United Kingdom and Canada will be on display at the Project T2 conference. Named for Larta Institute's technology transfer program, Project T2 comes to the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles on November 8, 2005.

The day will be devoted to presentations by companies spun off from universities and to researchers seeking to license technologies developed in universities. Now in its third year, Project T2 for the first time goes beyond the boundaries of Southern California to include presenters from universities across the country and from other countries. Technology transfer practitioners from Cambridge University, UCLA, UCSD and others will join CEOs and senior executives in charge of technology commercialization from Dupont, Johnson and Johnson, Mitsubishi Chemical Company, Hewlett Packard, InflammaGen and Pathway Diagnostics, as well as senior officials like featured keynoter Dr. Arthur Carty, National Science Advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada, in conversation about the nature of innovation around the world, technology transfer, and the perils and promise of collaboration between industry and universities.

Larta's mentors, drawn from a diverse group of experts including the Tech Coast Angels, have coached and critiqued all the live presentations (11 in the life sciences and 14 in engineering and the physical sciences) for 2 weeks prior to the conference. In addition, 45 "poster" presenters will also be featured at the conference.

For the first time, a group of Canadian companies drawn from Alberta and British Columbia will be taking the stage at the conference. The group, mentored through Larta's Global Bridge program (via videoconference and Web), represents a strong showing for Western Canada, which has interest in the U.S. market for licensing and funding and to build strategic alliances.

Unlike other technology transfer conferences, Project T2 is a demonstration of Larta's engaged view of the tech transfer process - a focus on "market pull" and "body contact" with all the companies that wish to make a business case at Project T2. This approach marks Larta's practice in all of its programs: working actively to uncover, nurture and showcase early stage innovations for the benefit of buyers of innovation, and to shine a spotlight on hidden nuggets of technology throughout the world.
