Where
in the world
?
By
Rohit Shukla, CEO, Larta Institute
An
illuminating and intriguing set of stars will align at the Life
Sciences Venture Forum on May 30th. Come share the starlight!
Speakers
and panelists are, of course, a common feature of conferences.
Rarely though, do panels and speakers occur against a backdrop
of visible innovation that makes their discussions and conversations
so relevant as to make a practical case for the "globality"
of the life sciences (as one of the panels at the upcoming Life
Sciences Venture Forum is named) or for the "good, the
bad and the ugly" in the landscape of the life sciences,
(taken from the title of another panel at the Forum)...

Horacio Facca, Technology Commercialization Advisor, Larta Institute
Still
with fond memories from the "best Venture Forum ever"
- The 2007 Venture Forum - I have the difficult task of cherry
picking the companies that would have the most appeal to the
audience of this year's Venture Forum. Let me clarify from the
onset that this year's (2008) venture forum will, in turn, be
the new "best ever". The Larta Institute has done
an exemplary job over the years and I would not be surprised
to see the event continuing to grow in size, scope and (positive)
impact on entrepreneurs, investors, sponsoring Government agencies
and partner companies for many years to come ... more
Buckyballs
Breathe a Sigh of Relief
By
Lee Bruno, Editor, Innovation Pipeline
Named
after the great American architect Buckminster Fuller, buckyballs
are getting a lot of attention at Purdue University. Part of
Purdues research is focused on the environmental impact
of these ultrasmall particles.
Concerns have been expressed that release of any nanoparticles
into the environment could harm the microorganisms plants, people
and other animals depend on. Purdue researchers came up with
two approaches to see if buckyballs change the way microorganisms
do their jobs. One was to analyze the genetics of microorganisms
to look for changes, the other was to measure the output of
carbon dioxide and methane, which are released when microbes
degrade organic matter ... more
