Forum Attracts Leading Companies and Investors
Over
one thousand attendees thronged the Wilshire Grand Hotel
in Downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday and Thursday, May 25
and 26, for Larta Institute's 11th annual Venture
Forum. The Forum featured 130 top emerging companies,
including 70 SBIR grant-winning life sciences companies
funded by the National Institutes of Health on May 25, and
60 companies representing a variety of industries on May
26.

Direct
Drive Systems, Meaning Master Technologies, and Row 44 were
selected from a field of 60 presenting companies to win
Best of Show on May 26, Day 2 of Larta Institute's
2005 Venture Forum. Attending investors served as judges
for this year's Venture Forum Best of Show awards,
representing a cross-section of institutional, corporate,
venture capital and angel investors.

Series #9: Attracting Capital: Financing Strategies for the New
Venture
With the ever-worsening state of the VC industry, emerging companies
need strong knowledge of the most realistic options available for
financing in the current marketplace. This workshop considers different
financing strategies, including VC financing, angel financing, government
funding, and loans. You will learn what is required to approach
each financing source, and when not to waste your time. If you determine
that outside equity financing is not for your company, you will
learn other strategies and techniques to help your business move
forward, including bootstrapping, partnering with customers, and
leveraging.

Preparing the Financial Forecast Model
This workshop will show you how to build a financial forecast model.
Using Excel, you will learn how to build your forecast from the
bottom up, taking the primary elements of your business (sales,
cost of goods sold, staffing and overhead) and translating them
into a forecasted Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement and Balance
Sheet in a format that potential investors will find attractive.

West Virginia High Technology Consortium Foundation, Inc.'s Emerging
Minority Business Leaders (EMBL) program at West Liberty State College
helps develop and empower minority students to become the next generation

business plan competition, reimbursement up to $700 for travel expenses,
free room and board, $1000.00 stipend paid after completion of program,
