The Mars Exploration Rover Project
Presented by Dr. John L. Callas – Deputy Project Manager, The
Mars Exploration Rover Project. In January, 2004 two intrepid robotic
explorers set foot on an uncharted world, the surface of Mars! The
two explorers, Spirit and Opportunity, began what was originally
planned as a 90-day mission. Their assignment as robotic field geologists
was to provide an assessment of the past geologic environment at
two very different locations on the planet. Well over a year later,
the two rovers continue to operate without any signs of stopping,
adding new discoveries every day. Their discoveries are rewriting
the textbooks about the planet and their continued unprecedented
performance continues to delight us all.

West Virginia High Technology Consortium Foundation, Inc.'s Emerging
Minority Business Leaders (EMBL) program at West Liberty State College
helps develop and empower minority students to become the next generation
of entrepreneurs and technology leaders. The focus of the course
is on entrepreneurship and technology management, and includes a
business plan competition, reimbursement up to $700 for travel expenses,
free room and board, $1000.00 stipend paid after completion of program,
and three graduate credits awarded to rising Undergraduate Juniors
and above.
