award in the world, given for groundbreaking research in the physical
sciences and in medicine and economics, as well as for excellence
in literature and for work on behalf of peace. California boasts

24: Larta University & Caltech present: Technology Commercialization
The process of moving technologies from the research space into
the commercial marketplace is a challenging and intricate task.
This Larta University workshop, co-hosted by Caltech, will provide
insight on areas of commercialization and technology transfer to
enable strategic, successful efforts. Topics include intellectual
property and licensing, technology management, and more. Speakers
include Joseph Marks (Smart Technology Ventures), Jim Myers (TRW),
Ken Pickar (Caltech), David Sands (Akin Gump Technology Ventures),
Tom Tsao (U Machines), and Scott Carter (Caltech). The workshop
will be held at Caltech in Pasadena, from 8 am-12 noon.

24: California Nobel Prize Centennial Academia Symposium: "21st
Century Pioneers
With the largest concentration of Nobel Laureates in the world,
California celebrates 100 years of the Nobel Prize. As part of a
statewide celebration of the Nobel Prize Centennial, UCLA and Caltech
have joined forces to present a day long academic symposium celebrating
the "21st Century Pioneers of Science." In the spirit
of progress and knowledge, Nobel Laureates from academic institutions
will introduce leading Southern California scholars who will share
their engaging and innovative research. Morning Session at
UCLA (space limited), Korn Convocation Hall, 9-11:30 am; afternoon
session at Caltech, Beckman Auditorium, Pasadena, 2:30-5 pm.
