1. "The Old New Economy: Oil, Computers, and the Reinvention of the Earth" from The Atlantic Monthly

In a speech last May, Treasury Secretary Lawrence H. Summers, an economist of distinction, reflected on what people are calling the New Economy. The notion is "both palpable and amorphous -- more often declared than defined," he said. "But if there is one fundamental change at its heart, it must be the move from an economy based on the production of physical goods to an economy based on the production and application of knowledge."

2. Report: "Net Economy Still Booms" from University of Texas
The Internet economy grew at a healthy clip over the past year to the point where it now provides more jobs than the insurance industry and brings in one of every five dollars in revenue, according to a study released last Friday. And despite doom-and-gloom reports from Wall Street, that growth is not expected to slow as mainstream businesses integrate the Internet into their everyday operations, the study's authors said.

3. Broadband unwired - Next generation wireless: the world holds its breath.
We're now in the midst of a turbulent communications boom that would unnerve even Marconi. Fiber-optic cables are being laid at a frenetic rate to carry terabytes of Internet traffic for businesses and consumers. Wireless transmission towers are being deployed throughout cities and countries to keep pace with the snowballing information glut, and so people can keep abreast of the latest stock market rally or plunge. Across Europe and Japan, wireless technologies have rapidly become part of the social culture and business environment. There's no turning back.
