If
You Build Right...
They Will Fund
Hard Core Tech Will
Survive Any Market Place -
Even This One
|
As
venture capitalists are turning towards later-stage
tech companies, startups -- and new technologies
-- have encountered a valley where leaps of
funding faith are harder to come by. The recent
LAVA conference echoed the uncertainty of
the community, yet at the same time, angel
investors felt that funding is still available
for emerging companies. And it isn't that
either of the arguments is unfounded.
The
CalTIP program, a seed grant administered
by larta on behalf of the state of California,
will now play an even more vital role to companies
trying to emerge in a hesitant community burned
by bad investments. Money is available, yet
the rules for who is allocated those funds
is shifting. The way that CalTIP has evaluated
companies -- rewarding hard core technologies
as opposed to puff -- will be mimicked in
the venture capital community, which can't
afford to buy into hype any longer.

Seed
Opportunities
Could
your business use $250,000 to Grow?
Technology companies can win up to $250,000
to bring their products to market. larta manages
a grant program - the California Technology
Investment Partnership (CalTIP) - that provides
up to $250,000 in state funds to match federal
technology awards.
Federal
technology awards help businesses pay for
the product, but they do not help with running
the business. CalTIP provides the opportunity
to get matching state funds to assist in these
areas.
CalTIP awards are not debt and they are not
equity; they are grant funds to build your
company.
Last year, state officials and larta's Technical
Review Committee - composed of industry leaders
and venture capital investors - awarded $2.4
million in grants.
The solicitation opens March 15, 2001 and
all proposals are due by May 15th, 2001
